Dr. Howard grew up in Maryland and attended medical school in Norfolk, Virginia at Eastern Virginia Medical School. His passion for helping patients with chronic pain developed during his residency and fellowship training at the Mayo Clinic, where he learned a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to treating pain effectively.

After completing his pain fellowship, he moved to North Carolina to be closer to his family, who had relocated to the Raleigh area from Maryland for better weather and BBQ. He joined the team at EmergeOrtho in 2017.

Dr. Howard is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine and the Spine Intervention Society. His interests include spinal cord stimulation, which uses mild electrical pulses to interfere with pain messages reaching the brain.

Dr. Howard specializes in pain management and non-surgical treatment options including epidural steroid injections, facet injections, and spinal cord stimulation.

Outside of work, Dr. Howard and his girlfriend Kat enjoy exploring North Carolina’s trails and sunny beaches.

Patient Testimonials:

Very Impressed!
Dr. Howard was very thorough and explained my problem very clearly. He discussed possible treatments and their success rates. I was very impressed with him, and I plan to follow through with his recommendations.

Caring Physician
Dr Howard was excellent. He listened to me, explained and showed me my MRI and took all the time I needed. I felt like he understood and cared.

Great Bedside Manner
The main goal was to find a doctor that listens, has time to answer questions and explain in a way that I can understand and also have a good bedside manner--Dr. Howard has all these and I was glad to have him for my doctor. I felt much better after the visit.
