Dr. Petty specializes in non-surgical orthopaedics, orthobiologics, sports medicine and concussion management.

Dr. Petty completed his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. As a student, he played Division I basketball for the NC State Wolfpack. Following his undergraduate degree, Dr. Petty completed his Doctor of Medicine degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. Dr. Petty went on to complete a Family Medicine Residency at University of South Alabama. Immediately following residency, Dr. Petty completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the renowned Campbell Clinic in Memphis, and obtained additional training at Mayo Clinic and The Orthobiologic Institute. He has served as team physician for multiple high school and college teams, and also worked with professional athletes of Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA and the Memphis Redbirds. Dr. Petty has extensive sports medical coverage including Country Music Marathon, St. Jude Marathon, The Memphis Open, and many other sporting events.

Dr. Petty is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, Exercise is Medicine and American Academy of Family Medicine. Dr. Petty is skilled in advanced ultrasound techniques such as hydrodissection, aspiration, percutaneous joint injections, percutaneous fenestration and diagnostic ultrasound.

Dr. Petty provides nonsurgical options for patients such as orthobiologics, hyaluronate injections, and Tenex procedures. As part of his orthobiologics he provides PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) and Adult MSC injections. Orthobiologics can be useful for arthritis, tendon/muscle injuries that are acute or chronic.

Dr. Petty provides the Tenex ultrasound guided treatment for chronic tendonitis (tendonosis). The Tenex procedure is a minimally invasive, non-surgical approach for eliminating scar tissue, the source of chronic tendon pain.

Dr. Petty is credentialed in the management of Sports Concussions. He is a Certified ImPACT Consultant for the management and neurocognitive testing of athletes. Dr. Petty co-authored an article on the Sideline Management of Concussions in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinics of American Clinical Review Articles.

Dr. Petty is from Winston-Salem, NC and is married to Dr. Tiffany Petty and they have two young sons. Dr. Petty’s wife is a Pediatrician and is practicing in North Carolina. Dr. Petty likes to spend time with his family and is involved in community activities along with playing basketball, running 5K races and watching multiple sports.
