Dr. Shadduck earned his undergraduate and medical degrees in his native state of California. Upon completion of medical school, he moved to the East Coast, where he completed his internship, residency, and research fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Shadduck has nearly 20 years experience treating illnesses in the following areas:
• Abdominal surgery – for diseases of the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, small bowel, appendix, and large bowel
• Breast surgery – for benign and malignant breast disease
• Endocrine surgery – for diseases of the adrenal, parathyroid and thyroid glands
• Hernia surgery – for inguinal, femoral, ventral/incisional, diaphragmatic, and other hernias
His current clinical and research interests are in abdominal and hernia surgery, and medical device development.
Since 1993, Dr. Shadduck has served the Triangle and surrounding communities, treating patients at Regional Surgical Associates, Durham Regional Hospital, North Carolina
Specialty Hospital, and Davis Ambulatory Surgery Center. He has served in leadership positions at each of these facilities.
Dr. Shadduck has published a number of scientific articles and book chapters. He currently serves on several editorial boards: Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Journal of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Surgical Endoscopy, and Hernia. He also serves in leadership positions with the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. In summer of 2012, Dr. Shadduck was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the Society for Laparoendoscopic Surgeons during 2012-2013.
Beyond the local and national levels, Dr. Shadduck has volunteered his time and expertise internationally, engaging in medical missionary work for numerous years in Central America.
Dr. Shadduck now treats patients at the Durham (William Penn Plaza) location of TOA.
