Multi-ligament Knee Reconstruction

The knee contains four main ligaments that provide stability and allow the knee to function properly. If more than one ligament is injured, reconstruction surgery is usually needed to restore the knee joint. Multi-ligament knee injuries are common in sport related and high-impact activities. This injury causes pain and instability and most patients are unable to return to sports without treatment.

After a physical examination and imaging tests are done, the doctor knows what ligaments are affected and reconstruction surgery can then begin. In this procedure, the damaged ligaments are reconstructed using a graft taken either from the patient or from a donor. After multi-ligament reconstruction surgery, bracing and physical therapy are required so the knee can regain strength and stability.

Multi-ligament knee injuries are painful but you don't have to continue with the aching pain. Contact our office today to learn more about this procedure and how our surgeons at Triangle Orthopaedics can offer the best treatment for your injury.
