Dr. Joseph Wilson received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, and his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Prior to completing his orthopaedic training at Duke Medical Center, he served four years active duty, as a Flight Surgeon in the United States Navy, as a member of an F-18 Fighter Attack Squadron, aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Constellation.
Upon completion of his general orthopaedic training , Dr. Wilson performed an additional 18 months of subspecialty training in Sports Medicine and Shoulder surgery. He completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where we was an assistant team physician for Depaul University’s Division I Men’s and Women’s basketball teams, the Chicago White Sox, and the Chicago Bulls. Dr. Wilson then completed the ALPS Surgery Institute International Shoulder Fellowship in Annecy, France, with Dr. Laurent Lafosse, considered by many to be one of the premier arthroscopic shoulder surgeons in the world.
Dr. Wilson has a broad range of knowledge in general orthopaedics with a true passion and specialized knowledge in advanced arthroscopic techniques of the shoulder and knee. Training in Europe has allowed Dr. Wilson to gain specific skills and expertise in various arthroscopic and open shoulder procedures and treatments that are not commonly utilized here in the United States.
A prior Academic All-American, and team captain of both the University of Virginia, and Gold medal winning USA World Lacrosse Team, Dr. Wilson understands the demands and desires of todays active population, and promises to deliver compassionate and knowledgeable care for patients of all ages.
