Welcome to Mark A. Burt, M.D., he specializes in: joint replacement surgery utilizing minimally invasive techniques to help accelerate patient’s recovery and return them to a more active lifestyle.  Minimally invasive techniques may allow less blood loss, smaller incision size, less muscle disruption, less postoperative pain, quicker rehabilitation and faster return to productivity.  His other areas of specialization include:  sports injuries and surgery (arthroscopy), fracture care management, hand surgery, and general orthopaedic surgery.

Dr. Mark A. Burt is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, an Active Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honors Medical Society. Dr. Burt has special interests in joint replacement surgery utilizing minimally invasive techniques to help accelerate patient’s recovery and return them to a more active lifestyle.  Minimally invasive techniques may allow less blood loss, smaller incision size, less muscle disruption, less postoperative pain, quicker rehabilitation and faster return to productivity.  Dr. Burt is also a regional specialist with Anterior Total Hip Replacements (also known as Anterior Intermuscular Supine Total Hip Arthoplasty).  His other areas of specialization include:  sports injuries and surgery (arthroscopy), fracture care management, hand surgery, and general orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Burt also holds a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in sports medicine*.

Dr. Burt was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended undergraduate school at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He attended medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and completed his general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. While at Tulane University he served as administrative chief resident, earned the Leonard Marmor Surgical Arthritis Foundation Award for the outstanding orthopaedic surgery resident, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Currently, he resides in Wake Forest with his wife, son, and daughter.

*CAQ Sports Medicine:  The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, in conjunction with the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, offers a certificate of added qualification for "those surgeons who have demonstrated qualifications beyond those expected of other orthopaedic surgeons by virtue of additional education, a practice characterized by a majority of cases in orthopaedic sports medicine, and contributions to this field of medicine."  It is granted to orthopaedic surgeons who are approved to take and who pass a subspecialty examination in sports medicine.  Fewer than 600 surgeons hold the sports CAQ nationally.
