Biography:

A Triangle native, Dr. Silver is board-certified and holds a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in sports medicine*.  He specializes in the arthroscopic treatment and reconstructive surgery of shoulder and knee injuries.  Advanced areas of training include arthroscopic rotator cuff and shoulder instability repair, shoulder replacement, and ACL reconstruction.

Dr. Silver earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his M.D. from Wake Forest University.  He completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at Duke University and his fellowship training in sports medicine at UNC- Chapel Hill, where he assisted in the care of Tar Heel athletes.

Dr. Silver has been the orthopedic consultant for the PGA Tour in Greensboro and the Champions Tour (Seniors PGA) in Cary since returning to the Triangle and also serves as a team physician for the Durham Bulls.  Before joining Triangle Orthopedics in 2005, he practiced for two years in Virginia Beach, where he served as the orthopedic consultant for the LPGA in Williamsburg, Virginia and as a team physician for Old Dominion University.

Dr. Silver is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, the American Medical Association, and is board certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Silver practices at Rex Hospital, Wake Med North Hospital, Durham Regional Hospital, North Carolina Specialty Hospital, and James E. Davis Surgery Center.

*CAQ Sports MedicineThe American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, in conjunction with the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, offers a certificate of added qualification for "those surgeons who have demonstrated qualifications beyond those expected of other orthopaedic surgeons by virtue of additional education, a practice characterized by a majority of cases in orthopaedic sports medicine, and contributions to this field of medicine."  It is granted to orthopaedic surgeons who are approved to take and who pass a subspecialty examination in sports medicine.  Fewer than 600 surgeons hold the sports CAQ nationally.
