The acromion is the bony process on the shoulder blade that forms the highest point on the shoulder. In an acromioplasty, the surgeon shaves part of the acromion bone, cuts a ligament over the shoulder, and removes injured tissue. This procedure is often performed to treat pinched rotator cuff tissue and minor tears in the rotator cuff tendon.

This arthroscopic surgery is usually outpatient and less invasive than open shoulder surgery so recovery time is much shorter. After surgery, physical therapy will be needed for the patient to regain function in the shoulder.

Our surgeons at Triangle Orthopaedics see many patients with shoulder pain and offer excellent care. Physical therapy specialists are also experienced in rehabilitation after shoulder surgeries and will ensure patients receive quality care for recovery.
