When an ankle is injured or sprained many times, it often becomes unstable and requires surgery to repair the damaged ligament in the ankle. For this outpatient procedure, the surgeon makes small incisions at the damaged area and a harvested tendon graft, either from the patientŐs own body or from a donor, is weaved through holes drilled in the bone to take the place of the damaged ligament. If the real ligament is not too damaged, it can be repaired. Often, an ankle arthroscopy is done at the same time as this procedure to look for damage in the joint. This reconstruction surgery allows the ankle to regain stability and strength.

Does your ankle roll easily? Are you experiencing pain from repetitive ankle sprains? Ankle ligament reconstruction could be an appropriate treatment option for you.
