Achilles Tendon Injuries

The tendon that stretches from the heel to the calf muscles that you can feel at the back of your ankle is the Achilles tendon. Achilles tendon injuries are common with abrupt movements and overuse. Usually pain medication, ice and compression, and rest can speed the healing of an Achilles tendon injury. However, if the tendon ruptures, surgery will be necessary to repair it.

The surgeon makes an incision, or several small incisions, at the site and sutures the tendon back together. After surgery, the patient will need a cast or brace and physical therapy for stretching and strengthening.

If you have experienced this type of injury and surgery may be the best option for healing, Triangle Orthopaedics has surgeons to help. Please contact us at any of our Carolina locations for more information about an Achilles tendon injury and the treatment options available.
